§ Web Task Force Charge:
October 11, 2002
DRAFT
MEMORANDUM
TO:
- Michael Providenti, Northern Kentucky University
- Aleeah McGinnis, Murray State University
- Kerri Clark, Eastern Kentucky University
FROM:
- Lee Van Orsdel, Chair of SAALCK
Thanks to each of you for agreeing to serve on a task force to review SAALCK's web page and to make recommendations and eventual improvements to its current state. Special thanks to Michael for agreeing to serve as chair.
SAALCK is an organization that is in the process of re-inventing itself after a few years of relative dormancy while the Virtual Library Project was getting born. The web site has not been updated in a couple of years, as you will see when you visit it at http://www.uky.edu/OtherOrgs/SAALCK/welcome.html
Much of the current content is out of date, minutes have not been posted for a while, and the overall appearance is rather dull and unexciting. It is currently housed on a server at UK and appears as part of the KYVL website. You may be aware that Miko Pattie, now listed as the author of the page, is leaving her post in the KYVL, which is a further indicator that SAALCK needs and to reclaim ownership and possibly to relocate the site.
The re-invention of the website will be an ongoing project, for which we seek your leadership and input. We would like for you three to take on the development of an alternative site, working with the SAALCK council to finalize a new design, select a location, assign ongoing authorship and develop appropriate links.
When you are ready, we can give you feedback on the changes needed to the content-what's still valid and relevant and what is not. We will be able to give you files of minutes for the last year or more, a current directory of member directors, and current committees. Other content will be developed in the months to come, as we develop SAALCK's agenda. For example, we will begin reworking our mission statement and goals in February 2003.
The SAALCK directors meet about once a month, and we would be open to meeting with your task force whenever you think it would be constructive. You have our appreciation in advance for helping us address this important project.
