Government Information Work Group Meeting
December 11, 1997, 2 p.m.
University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY

Members Present:
Dee Wood, Sandee McAninch, Phil Yannarella, Lisa Russell, Beverly Daly, Perry Bratcher, Julie Lewis, Miko Pattie, Bill Richardson
The first item of business was to announce a name change for the group from "Special Projects" to "Government Information Access". It was felt this new name would better reflect the nature of activity under discussion.

Following a discussion of the budget, the group decided to flip-flop the 1998/1999 and 1999/2000 request for state publications scanning. The 1998/1999 request will be $10,250; the 1999/2000 request will be $75,000.

The group then divided into two subgroups:

Subgroup One will address questions related to federal census data including:

compiling a list of data sets for Kentucky Vital Statistics and Federal Census
cost and availability of data sets identified
use of transparent links for data access

Subgroup Two will work on questions concerning the digitization of Kentucky state agency publications including:

a review of the existing CORE list of state publications for additions and deletions
a survey of agencies that currently produce CORE publications for purposes of acquiring items already in electronic form
an analysis and proposal for scanning publications included in the "Collected Documents of the Commonwealth" c.1835-1945

Members of subgroup one "Data Sets": Phil Yannarella, Perry Bratcher, Dee Wood, Lisa Russell, Beverly Daly Sandee McAninch

Members of subgroup two "State Publications": Roxanna Jones, Julie Lewis, Nicole Justice (KDLA Clerk Intern), Bill Richardson

The subgroups will reconvene in early January to finalize the budget figures and request.
