DEFINITION
Document delivery consists of delivery of specific known items in any format via commercial document delivery, interlibrary loan, or other local services, on or off-campus, staff or user-initiated, to an individual or workstation.
PURPOSE
- To explore ways and means of improving document delivery services among SAALCK institutions;
- To serve as an information clearinghouse and provide a forum for statewide cooperative activities for document delivery;
- To continue to compile a cumulative document delivery database from which data can be reported to various agencies (e.g. IPEDS, ARL, SAALCK institutions) and incorporated in grant proposals and projects as needed;
- To provide training and workshops for SAALCK library personnel on document delivery activities;
- To insure effective communication with other library functions essential to document delivery through coordination of subgroups on:
- Interlibrary Loan
- Distance Learning
MEMBERSHIP
The committee will be composed of eleven members. Three of the members will be drawn from the chairs of the subgroups and the chair(s) of the Electronic Systems Committee. The remaining eight members will be appointed by the SAALCK directors insuring balanced representation from each of the following areas: Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery, Distance Learning, Collection Development and Systems.
LEADERSHIP
The chair(s) of the committee shall be elected by the group on an annual basis in the spring. The chair(s) of the Document Delivery Committee reports directly to the Chair of the SAALCK Directors.
Meetings of the committee should take place at the discretion of the chair(s). At least one meeting should be held annually. Between meetings business can be conducted using mail, e-mail, fax, and/or telephone.
