§ SAALCK Directors' Council Meeting
SAALCK Directors
October 11, 1984
The SAALCK Directors met for lunch and a discussion session during the Kentucky Library Association's fall meeting. In attendance were Martha Alexander Bowman (U of L), Donald W. Lyons (KSU), Mary Ellen Rutledge (NKU), Earl Wassom (WKU), Ernest E. Weyhrauch (EKU) and Paul Willis (U of K).
Martha Bowman asked about the other institutions' policies regarding the granting of borrowing privileges to non-university people. A variety of practices are used, although each institution represented does allow such borrowing privileges.
The group discussed the desirability of becoming more active and agreed to meet more frequently and to identify major issues on which to work. Martha Bowman was elected Chair; the next meeting will be held in early December, probably in Elizabethtown.
Discussion covered the following items:
- need to interface with the developing network for Kentucky and to have a voice in its governance,
- reactivation/formation of sub-groups, e.g., interlibrary loan and acquisitions,
- the database being developed by the network (particularly state government documents),
- SCR 30.
Ernie Weyhrauch volunteered to pull relevant documents from the SAALCK archives prior to the next meeting, so that everyone would have the opportunity to review the original charges to the sub-committees. The directors also agreed to check with their respective staffs regarding reactivation of these groups.
